Reliability and Performance Evaluation of Fault-aware Routing Methods for Network-on-Chip Architectures (RESEARCH NOTE)
Nowadays, faults and failures are increasing especially in complex systems such as Network-on-Chip (NoC) based Systems-on-a-Chip due to the increasing susceptibility and decreasing feature sizes. On the other hand, fault-tolerant routing algorithms have an evident effect on tolerating permanent faults and improving the reliability of a Network-on-Chip based system. This paper presents reliabili...
متن کاملAll-optical switching on a silicon chip.
We present an experimental demonstration of fast all-optical switching on a silicon photonic integrated device by employing a strong light-confinement structure to enhance sensitivity to small changes in the refractive index. By use of a control light pulse with energy as low as 40 pJ, the optical transmission of the structure is modulated by more than 97% with a time response of 450 ps.
متن کاملOptical Switching: Switch Fabrics, Techniques, and Architectures
The switching speeds of electronics cannot keep up with the transmission capacity offered by optics. All-optical switch fabrics play a central role in the effort to migrate the switching functions to the optical layer. Optical packet switching provides an almost arbitrary fine granularity but faces significant challenges in the processing and buffering of bits at high speeds. Generalized multip...
متن کاملOn-chip switch for reconfigurable mode-multiplexing optical network.
The switching and routing is essential for an advanced and reconfigurable optical network, and great efforts have been done for traditional single-mode system. We propose and demonstrate an on-chip switch compatible with mode-division multiplexing system. By controlling the induced phase difference, the functionalities of dynamically routing data channels can be achieved. The proposed switch is...
متن کاملNode Architectures for Optical Packet and Burst Switching
Optical Packet Switching (OPS) and Optical Burst Switching (OBS) are optical networking concepts based on fully exploiting fast dynamic allocation of (D)WDM channels. Compared to more static approaches focussing on providing end-toend optical channels, OPS and OBS aim at providing greater bandwidth efficiency, granularity and flexibility. In this paper we give an overview of the issues arising ...
